Cambridgeshire
based Ling Systems Ltd have recently designed, manufactured and installed
an empty beverage can handling system for Primo Schincariol, Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, as part of a project for Krones AG, Germany. The system includes a
mass belt conveyor from the infeed de-palletiser. A Vacuum Transfer Unit (which
removes fallen cans) and an Air Conveyor systems which supplies a single lane
vacuum belt — can inspector (which removes damaged cans) and a Can Rinser
which leads to the Filler.
Ling responsibility was from De-palletiser to Filler with the line covering a total distance of 58 metres. The control system, operating from an Allen Bradley PLC56, include conventional wiring of the motors back to Danfoss drives in the control cabinet. However, to allow for a greater range of speed settings, control signals between the PLC and inverters are carried via an Allen Bradley DeviceNet network within the panel. Switching from the control panel adjusts for three sizes of can and the appropriate set of fan/belt speeds and vacuum pressures. The system is capable of exceeding the overall line output of 90,000 cans per hour, to 99.998% efficiency.
